Hiding behind my smile

Word prompt: Camouflage

My smile was bright

It blended me in with the masses

I forced it out with all my might

And held back tears that fogged my glasses

My smile was my cover

For the thoughts that disrupted my brain

With it no one would discover

The bruises that caused my pain

Now when I watch the rerun

That smile was so humdrum

I wasn’t fooling anyone

No one can be that dumb!

  1. I can relate to this. It’s a very good poem. I was just saying to someone that no one ever really shows all of them self – we always keep something hidden. X
